Why care about the oceans?
Not many people realise that carbon emissions are harming the oceans. The oceans and climate are very closely linked. Marine animals are very vulnerable to climate change. Excess carbon dioxide is absorbed by the oceans, causing them to become warmer and more acidic. This harms the animals and plants in the oceans. As the sea warms up, sea ice melts, causing sea levels to rise and this affects low lying coastal communities. These changes are happening more rapidly than during any time previously, giving less time for species to adapt.
