GUIDINGS
Book a special guiding and our qualified and experienced guides will guide learners through the aquarium in small groups. Guiding can be general or theme based, e.g. biodiversity; conservation; ecology etc.COURSES
We have a variety of 4-hour, syllabus based courses that you can choose from. If you have any concerns, please discuss them with our Course Co-ordinator, Heidi at Tel: 031 328 8193/5.Senior Marine Life Course - Marine Biology (Grades 8 and 9)
This includes an intensive guiding through the aquarium, an optional dolphin presentation, and activities in our Education Centre. We studied your syllabus and decided that the following will be the best to offer:
- Classification
- Threats to our biodiversity, and how to avoid it
- Food webs, with man as the top predator
- Sustainable use of our resources
GRADE 10
1. Marine Ecology
This always includes guiding, an optional dolphin presentation, and activities in the Education Centre and wetlab where we will concentrate on marine ecosystems, adaptations of animals to such habitats, symbiotic relationships, food webs, and the importance of sustainable utilisation.2. Coral Reef Ecology
This includes a guiding, an optional dolphin presentation, and activities in the classroom. It is similar to our marine ecology course, but the complicated lives of the corals are highlighted.3. Biodiversity
This includes a guiding, a short presentation on biodiversity followed by interactive activities showing differences in biodiversity across the South African coast and some threats, focusing on exotic species and an optional dolphin presentation.3. Conservation
This includes guiding, activities highlighting the need for managing resource use, and an optional dolphin presentation.GRADE 11
- Marine Ecology
- Coral Reef Ecology
- Biodiversity
- Conservation
Population Dynamics
This includes a guiding, an optional dolphin presentation, and classroom activities: A power point presentation explaining the concepts of "population dynamics" interactive sampling methods; interactive population modelling exercise.PLUS:
A Geography Course on Beach Processes
This includes a guiding, activities in the Education Centre and an optional dolphin show. Beach dynamics and dune successions are the focus of this course.GRADE 12
Reproduction in the Sea
This includes a guiding, an optional dolphin presentation, and Education Centre activities: A look at asexual and sexual reproduction, and the advantages of sexual reproduction, embryonic development, birth and parental care.Environmental Studies
This includes a guiding, an optional dolphin presentation, and Education Centre activities: A look at the management of resources, exploitation versus sustainability, and eco-tourism.Diversity and Change (From July 2008)
This includes a guiding, an optional dolphin presentation, and Education Centre activities: Practical activities look at how mutation and natural selection occur. Find out how fossils are made and classified.LESSONS
The NPC Sea World Education Centre offers educators a wonderful addition to a visit to Sea World. Choose from a range of 45 minute interactive presentations to give learners a special understanding of the animals they will see. The learners have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss issues.GRADES 10 & 11
Biodiversity
Use the marine environment to discover the rich biodiversity along the South African coast and the threats to this. These and many more questions will be answered during this interactive lesson.Conservation
The marine environment is perceived to have endless resources. Learn about the resource use in South Africa and the need and tools for management.Marine Ecology
Using a number of different marine ecosystems, ecological concepts will be reinforced whilst at the same time highlighting adaptations.Population Dynamics
The educator can choose one of two lessons - either an overview of the main concepts in population dynamics or practical activities involving the use of indirect methods used to measure the size of a population i.e. sampling.GRADE 12
Reproduction
The process of asexual and sexual reproduction, and the advantages of sexual reproduction. A brief look at some of the marine animals and their parental care.Environmental Studies
How marine resources are managed, and the exploitation of resources versus sustainability of those resources.Remember: We accommodate a minimum of 15 pupils for each activity. These courses book up rapidly - please contact us early to avoid disappointment.
