Affrika
Affrika is the only pure bred female Atlantic Ocean Bottle nosed dolphin with a very dark stripe down her back. She loves her toys and doesn’t like to share them.
FACT: Dolphins have been seen in the wild playing with objects like long pieces of kelp and taking sponge from the reef to forage for fish hidden under the sand. Dolphins do not have hands to investigate objects so they use their mouths.
Affrika's Birthday
On Wednesday 12th May Affrika turned 15 and celebrated this milestone with her trainers. One of her trainers, Debbie was there when Affrika was born just before midnight at the old Sea World premises at the bottom end of West Street. Although it was just another day for Affrika, it was a big day for her trainers who made a special ice sculpture cake and some gelatine fish in ice. We know she loved the gelatine fish as she swallowed it very quickly and only shared the ice with her friends, Khanya, Tombi and Zulu.

During the midday show she was presented with her version of a birthday cake whilst the audience enjoyed a more traditional cake. Throughout the show she kept peeking at her cake and paid little attention to the trainers.
Affrika is a very inquisitive dolphin who enjoys challenges and is at times quite mischievous. She weighs 220 kg and measures just over 2 meters and during the World Cup she got more balls in the net than any of her friends.
