Jula

Jula is the most creative dolphin at uShaka Sea World; he is always keen to learn and knows more behaviours than any other dolphin at uShaka Sea World. Julas’ favourite behaviour is the tongue jiggle. This is where he sticks his tongue out and jiggles it around so that all his saliva ends up all over the trainers.

Jula recently celebrated his 21st birthday. He shared his gelatine cake with the other dolphins and enjoyed his special day.

FACT: Dolphins are born with frills along the edge of their tongue so that when they need to suckle all they need to do is fold their tongue over and link the frills to form a straw. In this way they form a water tight tube which they fold around their mother’s mammary slit and will suckle milk without ingesting sea water.
