Learners get to grips with the practicalities of classification

The NPC Sea World Education Centre recently hosted South City High School from the lower South Coast for a course on classification, which forms part of the Grade 11 school curriculum.

Classification is quite a difficult concept to teach in the classroom, where learners have to use their imagination while relying solely on textbooks. At uShaka Sea World the learners were able to view live animals and dried specimens, and before long classification theory began to make more sense.


Make the right fish choice with the new SASSI app

The Southern African Sustainable Seafood Initiative (SASSI) has just launched a WWF-SASSI cellphone app to help BlackBerry users make on-the-spot sustainable seafood choices.

Across the globe, unsustainable fishing has seen many fish populations depleted and others all but wiped out. The situation is no different in South Africa, where stocks of many well-known linefish species have been severely compromised.


Foreign aquarium experts in awe of uShaka Sea World's facilities
